Friday Note 10-31-2014

FRIDAY NOTE (10/31/2014)

Events of the Week:  Wow, how time flies!  I can’t believe it is already the end of October!  This week we finished our author study on Mercer Mayer.  We read his series of books about finding unusual things in hidden places around the house (There’s a Nightmare in my Closet, There’s an Alligator Under my Bed, There’s Something in my Attic.)  With each book we discussed and wrote about story elements (characters, setting, and sequence of events).  Our predictable chart was, “For Halloween, I will be ____.”  We read several Halloween books.  Our sight word was “be”.  We began learning about the expectations for Literacy Centers when the teacher is working with small groups. We introduced the reading strategy “Look at the picture” this week during Reading Workshop.  We practiced using this strategy with a book called I Can.  Your child has this book in their book box to continue to practice reading during independent reading time and rest time.  In math, we worked on numbers 6 to 10.  On Friday, we had our Halloween Party!  Thanks to everyone who helped make our party a big success!
