Note - 3/27/15
Events
of the Week:
Our theme
was spring. We spent the week learning
about how the season affects plants, animals, and people.
Language Workshop: This week we read three
informational books about spring. The
students wrote about key details they learned from the books. We discussed the changes we are seeing
outside. We learned about the weather
changes in spring and how the behavior of animals and people change as
well.
Writing
Workshop: We
looked at several spring pictures and wrote sentences about what was in each
picture. We are working on adding detail
to our writing. Our sentence writing is
getting better every day! Continue to
practice writing sentences at home.
Reading
Workshop: Students
are working daily in Literacy Centers.
While students are working independently, I am meeting with small groups
to focus on different reading skills.
During independent reading time, students are practicing the skills they
are learning during small groups and using their reading strategies. I hope that you are able to see them using
these reading strategies when they are reading with you at home.
Word Study: Each day we practiced
building sight words. We practiced
writing those words in handwriting lines with the letters formed correctly.
Math:
We started a new unit called Composing Numbers 11 to
19. For each number, we are putting that
many counters in ten frames. Then we are
figuring out the parts that make up each number (such as one set of 10 plus 5
leftover ones equal 15). Please look over your child’s math
page each night and continue to practice this skill at home.

Events
of the Week:
Our theme
was weather. We spent the week learning
about different types of weather. The
student’s that earned their 3rd quarter reading challenge enjoyed a
magic show performance by Ronald McDonald on Tuesday!
Math:
In math we reviewed addition and subtraction. Please continue to work on this skill at home
since switching between the two is often difficult in kindergarten. Remind them to pay extra close attention to
the + and – to know which operation they need to use. Please look over the assessment pages coming
home and work with your child on the needed skills.
Language
Workshop: Each day we focused on a different type of
weather. We read different informational
books as well as fiction books about weather.
Writing Workshop: We
wrote an opinion piece as a class about our favorite special class. The
students then wrote an opinion piece about their favorite play center. Please look over your child’s writing and
continue to practice at home.

such as cat, hat, bat, that and flat.
