Friday Note----Sorry I am late posting this!!!

Events of the Week: This week we continued our author study on Laura Numeroff.
  • Language Workshop: We read more “If You Give” books, including If You Give a Pig a Pancake, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and If You Give a Dog a Donut.  We continued to discuss story elements, cause and effect, and retelling events in order.  Our class focused on If You Give a Pig a Pancake.  We wrote about the book and did a fun art project.  Be sure to check these out in our hallway!
  • Writing Workshop: We continued our series of events writing.  We wrote about getting ready to come to school each day.  First, the students helped me to write about how I get ready and come to school.  Then, the students each wrote about how they each get ready in the mornings.  We are focusing on putting the events in the correct order and making sure our writing makes sense.
  • Reading Workshop: Students are working daily in Literacy Centers.  While students are working independently, I am having each student read to me independently to determine their end of year reading level.
  • Word Study: This week we focused on prefixes and suffixes.  We learned about how these can change the meaning of a word.  We added re- and un- to the beginning of words and added –s, -ed-, and –ing to the ending of words.
  • Math: We began a unit on solid figures (cylinder, cone, cube, and sphere).  The students enjoyed learning about these new shapes and finding them in our classroom.

Attention Parents:
We are experiencing exciting times in the way of expansion in student activities and athletics at Clever Schools.  If you haven’t been by to see our newly expanded sports complex on the High School campus, you need to check it out!  However as we experience this growth, we have growing pains in the area of transportation.  We are in desperate need of bus drivers to transport students to away games, competitions, etc.  If you have any interest in driving a bus, an application can be found online at the following link or can be picked up in the Central Office.  For more information contact John Cackley at 417-221-7812.

Summer School
We are “Gearing Up” for summer school!  Information will be coming home soon!

Next Week:
± We will finish up our author study on Laura Numeroff.
± In math we will analyze, compare, and compose shapes.
± During word study, we will practice making words.
± We will practice reading and writing all 34 sight words.

Have a great weekend!!

Cox Care Mobile

The Cox Care Mobile will be at Clever schools on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.  This will be the last regular scheduled visit for the school year.  The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides several services at no cost.  Your child can be seen by a Nurse Practitioner for a sports physical, preschool physical, well check-up, or sick visit.  Immunizations are available for those that meet certain criteria.  You may call your school nurse to set up an appointment and to receive the necessary paperwork.
