FRIDAY NOTE
(10/30/2015)
Events
of the Week:
Wow, how
time flies! I can’t believe it is
already the end of October!
Math In math, we
worked on counting, reading and writing numbers 6 to 10.
Language Workshop This week we
finished our author study on Mercer Mayer. We read his series of books about finding
unusual things in hidden places around the house (There’s a Nightmare in my
Closet, There’s Something in my Attic, There’s an Alligator Under
my Bed, and There are Monsters Everywhere.) With each book we discussed and wrote about
story elements (characters, setting, and sequence of events). We also compared these books and talked about
ways that they are similar and different.
Reading
Workshop
We began learning about the expectations for Literacy Centers when the teacher
is working with small groups. We also
read the predictable reader I can.
We discussed how we can look at the picture when trying to read an
unknown word. Each child received their
own copy so that they can add it to their book boxes to read independently
later.
Writing
Workshop
Our sight word was “be”. We
practiced it by using it in the predictable chart, “For Halloween, I will be
____.”
Word
Study
We learned about the letters “Vv” and “Xx”.
Don’t forget to practice letter and sound identification with your child
at home.
