Friday Note 2-26-16

  FRIDAY NOTE - 2/26/16
This Week: In math we continued to work on addition. We learned the different ways to make a number. (5 + 4 = 9 and 8 + 1 = 9). Our theme was nursery rhymes. Our sight word this week was “of”.

·        Language Workshop— We read many different nursery rhymes.  We made Jack and Jill and Hey Diddle Diddle books to add to our book boxes.
·         Writing Workshop—We practiced writing an opinion piece together as a class.  An opinion piece consists of three sentences (or more).  The first sentence states an opinion (I like cats.).  The next two sentences give reasons why.  The first time as class we wrote about whether we would want a cat or a dog.  Later in the week we wrote about our favorite thing to do.
·        Reading Workshop—Students are working daily in Literacy Centers.  While students are working independently, I am meeting with small groups to focus on different reading skills.  During independent reading time, students are practicing the skills they are learning during small groups and using their reading strategies.  I hope that you are able to see them using these reading strategies when they are reading with you at home.

  FRIDAY NOTE - 2/12/15
