Friday Note: April 28, 2017

  • Language Workshop: We continued our author study on Laura Numeroff.  We read “If you take” books, including If You take a mouse to school, and If You take a mouse to the movies. We continued to discuss story elements, cause and effect, and retelling events in order.
  • Writing Workshop: We continued our series of events writing.  We wrote about getting ready to come to school each day.  First, the students helped me to write about how I get ready and come to school.  Then, the students each wrote about how they each get ready in the mornings.  We are focusing on putting the events in the correct order and making sure our writing makes sense.
  • Reading Workshop: Students are working daily in Literacy Centers.  While students are working independently, I am having each student read to me independently to determine their end of year reading level.
  • Word Study: This week we focused on prefixes and suffixes.  We learned about how these can change the meaning of a word.  We added re- and un- to the beginning of words and added –s, -ed-, and –ing to the ending of words.
