Friday Note 1-9-2015

Friday Note 1/09/15

I hope you all had a great Christmas and were able to spend a lot of time with your families.

This Week:  In math we started learning to join groups.
Our focus in reading this week was on the gingerbread man.  Here’s what we did in each workshop:

·        Language Workshop— We read several different books about gingerbread.  We read Gingerbread Baby and reviewed what characters are. We read The Gingerbread Man Loose in the school and reviewed what the setting of the book is. We read The Gingerbread Cowboy and practiced retelling the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  Each day we drew and labeled a picture and added it to our Reading Journal. We also read The Gingerbread Pirates and The Gingerbread Girl.

·        Writing Workshop—Each day after listening to the book we wrote a sentence in our journal about something that happened in the book. They are working very hard on their writing each day.

·        Reading Workshop—Students are working daily in Literacy Centers while I work in small groups or one on one with students.

·        Word Study—Our sight word was “you”.

**We have finished learning the letters in the alphabet.  Students should be able to identify all letters and know the sounds they make.  Please work with your child if they do not know all of the letters and sounds.

**2nd Quarter Progress Reports are coming home today.  Please look over it and work with your child on the skills they have not mastered yet.  This is your copy to keep.  Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Your child is bringing their book bag home for the first time today.  Please read the letter that is in the bag.  It includes information regarding our 3rd quarter reading challenge. The bag needs returned every Friday
