FRIDAY NOTE (9/23/16)
Events
of the Week:
Math: In math, we
completed our unit on measurement. We
have been using math words, such as length, longest, shortest, height, taller,
capacity, weight and so on. Ask your
child to put your family members in order from tallest to shortest.
Language
Workshop: Our theme this week was Colors. We read
several color books such as, Rain, Pete the cat I love my white shoes,
The day the crayons quit, and Press here. We’ve been focusing on naming the parts of a
book (front cover, back cover and title page).
We also have been learning to name the jobs of both the author (writes
the words) and illustrator (draws the pictures). Look for these assessments in your child’s
folder. As always, if he/she is not
proficient in these skills, then please practice them at home because I will
reassess at least one more time before the end of the quarter.
Reading
Workshop: We colored and read simple color books with
predictable text. We practiced touching each word as we read. We also
introduced buddy reading. We added these books to our book boxes so that we can
reread them independently. We also started literacy centers. This is a time
where I can meet with small groups to work on individual skills while the rest
of the class is working independently on skills.
Writing
Workshop:
We started labeling our picture in our
reading log. Each day we had a different color word. The students drew a
picture of something that color then labeled it with the sounds they heard.
Word
Study: We continued our letter study by learning the
letters Cc and Hh. We worked on
identifying each letter, writing it correctly and saying its sound.
