Friday
Note - 2/19/16
PTA’s Winter
Festival is TONIGHT!
This Week: In math we continued to
work on addition. We learned the different ways to make a number. (1 + 4 = 5
and 2 + 3 = 5). Our theme was universe. Our sight word this week
was “in”. Friday was Jump Rope for Heart.
Thank you to all who donated to the
American Heart Association.
·
Language
Workshop— We studied the universe. We asked questions and read books about the
sun, moon, Earth, and stars. Then we
listed key details and new vocabulary words from each book. The students really enjoyed learning about
this topic.
·
Writing
Workshop—We practiced writing complete sentences in our journals. We are working with students individually to
look at their writing and to set goals for their writing, such as using a
capital letter at the beginning of each sentence. Please encourage your child to write at
home.
·
Reading
Workshop—Students are working daily in Literacy Centers. While students are working independently, I
am meeting with small groups to focus on different reading skills. During independent reading time, students are
practicing the skills they are learning during small groups and using their
reading strategies. I hope that you are
able to see them using these reading strategies when they are reading with you
at home.
·
Word

Reading Journey
I
hope you and your child are finding a special time each night to work on our
reading journey. Remember, our goal is
to complete fifteen reading activities!
To celebrate our third quarter reading journey we are going to “journey”
into our favorite book. We will be dressing up as our favorite book character
for the read-a-thon so begin talking with your child on who their favorite
character is. This reading journey will end on March 9th.
The Character word for February is
TOLERANCE.
Ask your child what it means.
(Accepting Other’s Differences)
Next
Week:

We
will learn about nursery rhymes.
·
We
will continue to practice different ways of making numbers.

Have a Great
