Friday Note - April 1,
2016
Events
of the Week:
Our theme
was plants.
Language Workshop: We read different books
about plants and talked about what plants need to grow. We also discussed the
parts of a plant.
Writing
Workshop: We
practiced writing sentences about spring. I displayed spring pictures for the
students to look at. They then practiced writing about different things they
saw in the pictures.
Reading
Workshop: Students
are working daily in Literacy Centers.
While students are working independently, I am meeting with small groups
to focus on different reading skills.
During independent reading time, students are practicing the skills they
are learning during small groups and using their reading strategies. I hope that you are able to see them using
these reading strategies when they are reading with you at home.
Word Study: Each day we practiced
building and spelling simple words. We
practiced changing the beginning, middle, and ending sounds to make new words.
Math:
We finished our unit called Composing Numbers 11 to
19. For each number, we are putting that
many counters in ten frames. Then we are
figuring out the parts that make up each number (such as one set of 10 plus 5
leftover ones equal 15).
