Thursday Note: April 21,
2016
No School Tomorrow!
Thank you
for coming to our conference this week! I enjoyed visiting with each of you.
Events of the Week: This week we
started an Author Study on Laura Numeroff.
- Language Workshop: We read If You
Give a Mouse a Cookie the first part of the week and identified the
characters and setting. We also practiced
retelling the story. We finished
off the week reading If You Give a Dog a Donut and If You Give a
Moose a Muffin. The students enjoyed comparing the stories.
·
Writing Workshop: We introduced series of events writing. We spent the week sequencing events in the
right order and discussing that in order for our writing to make sense it has
to be written in the correct order.
- Reading Workshop: Students are working
daily in Literacy Centers. While
students are working independently, I am beginning to call each student up
to read with them independently to determine their end of year reading
level.
- Word Study: We spent the week
building sight words with magnetic letters and writing them. We are working very hard on making our
words easy to read and writing them correctly in the lines.
- Math: We began a unit on solid figures (cylinder, cone, cube, and
sphere). The students enjoyed
learning about these new shapes and finding them in our classroom.
