Friday Note 9-19-14
Events of the Week:
This week we read Who
Said Red? and began our focus on identifying colors and color words. We introduced the colors red, blue green and
yellow. Ask your child to sing the color
songs we have learned! Our sight word this week was my. We have finished learning
about our classmates by playing the Name
Game. The letters “Nn” and “Pp” were
our letters of the week. We worked on
identifying each letter, writing it, and its sound. In math we started our unit
on measurement. We learned to compare
things by length. Next week we will work
on comparing by weight and capacity.

The character word for September is respect!
Ask your child what it means.
(Treating others the way you want to be treated.)
We are continuing to work on reciting our
phone numbers, addresses, and birthdays.
Please practice with your child at home on these. These will be on the grade card when I
assess your child in October.
Parent-Teacher
Conferences
Parent-Teacher
conferences will be held the week of October 20st. I will be sending home sign-up information at
a later date. Thanks!
Reading Challenge!
Don’t forget to be completing
the reading challenge logs! To earn a
homerun your student must complete all four reading logs by the end of first
quarter.
Keep up the hard work!
IR Time (Independent
Reading)
Has your child said
anything about IR time? Over the last four weeks
we have been practicing reading independently in our classroom. During IR time your child picks a special reading place
around the classroom to read. While reading at home
with your child ask them what they are doing during IR time (looking for sight
words, letters we’ve learned, spaces between words, ending marks & capital
letters). This week we learned to
make a prediction about what the book will be about by looking at the front
cover. We also learned that the
pictures in the book tell a story and that the words in the book match the
pictures. These are great skills
that you can work on with your child while reading at home each night. Independent Reading time is one of our favorite times of the
day. J
