Friday Note 9-4-15

Reminder: Book Order is due Wednesday the 9th.
You can send the order in or order online
Each order helps earn free books for our classroom!

Math: In math, we continued to practice sorting objects.  Students engaged in several class activities to help practice sorting, classifying, and counting objects.  We practiced sorting objects by color, size and shape.  We also learned how to make graphs.

Language Workshop: This week we continued our theme of All About Me and the focus on families.  Our Shared Reading for the week was Families are Different.  We discussed the importance of our families and discovered some similarities and differences that we have.  We realized that all families are different and special.  We talked about common physical, social and emotional needs and how these differ from wants.

Reading Workshop:  We continued our unit over reading routines.  This week we learned how to handle books carefully, correct way to put book away, and what we do with a damaged book.

Writing Workshop: This week we practiced correctly forming letters Rr and Ss.  Each day we write a daily message.  As a class we look for sight words, and the letters we are learning that week in the message. We have also introduced spacing, capital letters, and punctuation.

Word Study: Our sight word for this week was “a”.  Students were able to engage in various Smartboard games to reinforce recognition and the sound the letters Rr and Ss make.
Reading Journey
I hope you are finding time each day to read with your child.  Make this a special time for you and your child and make it fun!  I love hearing what your child is reading at home and the different places they are reading around the house.  When reading with your child encourage them to point out our sight words and letters we have learned.
