Friday
Note 1/15/16
NO
SCHOOL ON MONDAY!
This
Week: In math we
finished our unit on joining groups. We
learned how to use the + and = to write number sentences.
Our focus in reading this week was winter.
·
Language
Workshop—We read two informational texts
about winter, Winter and Exploring Winter. We reviewed the characteristics of
informational texts (table of contents, glossary and index). We listed key details from each text and wrote
about these details in our Reading Journals.
·
Writing
Workshop—We read Winter and made a list of vocabulary words (gloves,
skates, sled, coat, snowman). We added
this list to our Reading Journals. We
wrote a sentence every day using one or more of these vocabulary words.
·
Reading
Workshop—Students are working daily in Literacy Centers while I work in small
groups or one on one with students.
**We have finished
learning the letters in the alphabet. Please work with your child if they do
not know all of the letters and sounds.

Library
Books
Your child brought home a library books on Thursday. Remember to take care of the library books
while they are at your house! A good idea is to keep the library book in
your child’s backpack when it is not being read. Library books are due
back each Thursday, so your child can check out a new book.
A message from Mrs.
Carlson:
Your child probably
brought information home this week regarding our annual Library Magazine
Drive. Thank you for taking time to read the letter that was
enclosed in the packet. This annual event along with our fall book fair
help us raise funds with which to purchase books for our library.
One of the easiest and most direct methods of placing subscriptions is online.
The letter gave you instructions of how to set up an ‘online store’ for your
child. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Carlson, our
librarian at carlsonk@clever.k12.mo.us
Your child can return their magazine orders as soon as you are finished, but
the official deadline is Friday, January 29th.
Reading Challenge
Thank you to all of the parents
that read with your child this week and returned their book bag and logs
today. If you did, then your child is
coming home with new books in their book bags today. If you did not, please return these on
Tuesday so that your child can get new books and can continue to work towards
earning the January Pizza Hut Book-It coupon.
Next
Week:
- Our theme will continue to be winter. We will focus on fiction books.
- We will celebrate the 100th
day of school.
- Our sight word will be “have”.
Have a great weekend!!
Mrs. Wenger
