Friday Note 1/08/16
I hope you all
had a great Christmas and were able to spend a lot of time with your families.
This
Week: In math we started learning to join groups, which
lays the foundation for addition. Our focus in reading this week was on
the different versions of the gingerbread man.
Here’s what we did in each workshop:
·
Language
Workshop—We read several different
books about the gingerbread man. We read
Gingerbread loose at school, Gingerbread Baby, The
Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Girl, and The Gingerbread
Pirates. Each day we discussed the story elements. We reviewed
character and setting. We practiced retelling the stories and we compared the
books.
·
Writing
Workshop—We wrote a sentence about the book we had read during Language Workshop. The kids are working very hard on their
writing each day.
·
Reading
Workshop—Students are working daily in Literacy Centers while I work in small
groups or one on one with students.
·
Word
Study—Our sight word was “you”. We
practiced building our sight words with magnetic letters.
**We have finished learning the letters in
the alphabet. Please work with your child if he or she does not know all of the
letters and sounds.

Books
Your child will begin bringing home library books next
week. Remember to take care of the library books while they are at your
house! A good idea is to keep the library book in your child’s backpack
when it is not being read. Library books are due back each Thursday,
so your child can check out a new book.
Sight Words—Keep practicing!

**2nd Quarter Progress
Reports are coming home today. Please
look over it and work with your child on the skills they have not mastered
yet. This is your copy to keep. Let me know if you have any questions.
The Character Word for January is:
Perseverance
(Never, ever quit!)
BOOK BAGS! 3rd Quarter Reading Journey!!
Your child is bringing his/her book
bag home for the first time today. There
are letters in the book bag and in your child’s daily folder. Please read these carefully. They include important information regarding
our 3rd quarter reading journey, your child’s book bag, and ways to
help your child become a better reader. The
bag, books, and signed log need returned every Friday!!
Next
Week:
·
Our
theme will be Winter.
·
We
will continue to work on addition.
·
Our
sight words will be “and” and “we”.
Have a great weekend!!
Mrs. Wenger
