Friday Note 3-31-17

Friday Note - 3-31-17
Events of the Week: Our theme was 5 senses.  We completed our NWEA testing. Our sight word was “was”.

Language Workshop: We read different books about our five senses. We talked about things we can see, hear, taste, smell, and feel.

Writing Workshop: We practiced writing sentences in our journals.

Reading Workshop: Students are working daily in Literacy Centers.  While students are working independently, I am meeting with small groups to focus on different reading skills.  During independent reading time, students are practicing the skills they are learning during small groups and using their reading strategies.  I hope that you are able to see them using these reading strategies when they are reading with you at home.

Word Study: Each day we practiced building and spelling simple words.  We practiced changing the beginning, middle, and ending sounds to make new words.

Math: We finished our unit called Composing Numbers 11 to 19.  For each number, we are putting that many counters in ten frames.  Then we are figuring out the parts that make up each number (such as one set of 10 plus 5 leftover ones equal 15).  Please look over your child’s math page each night and continue to practice this skill at home.

Please remember the goal is to be reading at least fifteen minutes each day with your child.    Our reading journey goal is to complete at least 15 activities by May 11th.  Make this a special time with your child.

Make A Wish Night
We are sponsoring a local 11 year old boy.  His wish is to go to Hawaii.  Our Make-A-Wish Night will be Tuesday, April 25th during the high school baseball and softball games. All profits will go to the Make-A-Wish Missouri organization. We'll have food, vendor booths, games, and a lantern ceremony. We may possibly have the wish kid there as well!
Shirts are available by clicking the link below. Thanks for helping us Make A Wish come true!!

Thank you for attending Parent-Teacher conferences this week.  I enjoyed visiting with each of you.
Next Week:

      • In math, we will start a unit on decomposing numbers 11 to 19.
      • Our sight word will be “for”.
      • We will continue to practice building and spelling simple words.
